W. Jerome Smith

Age 94, of Warsaw, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

He was born on September 12, 1929 in Rochester, NY to the late Wesley and Angela Madison Smith. Jerome was a graduate of Warsaw Central School Class of 1947. He began dairy farming at the age of 15, doing this until he retired in 1984. He also spent some time as the Wyoming County Building Inspector & Zoning Officer. Jerome was a member of Warsaw United Methodist Churches for 86 years. He was a Warsaw Central School Board member and president for over 20 years, and a member of the Livingston-Steuben-Wyoming BOCES Board. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Dairymen’s League, Kitchen Konference, Masons, and Warsaw Historical Society.

Jerome enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with friends and striking up conversation with anyone. Jerome’s many other interests included, birds, fossils, sharing his woodworking, local history and collectibles, nature conservation and preservation, and current events.

Jerome is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carol A. Bey Smith of Warsaw; daughters, Merry Lou (Robert) Holley of Warsaw, Linda (Cheryl Amro) Smith of Woodbridge, VA, Jaci (Robert) Mix of Warsaw; grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Schneckenburger of Warsaw, Katie (Dan) Istas of Buffalo, NY; great grandchildren, Jakob Evie and Anna Schneckenburger of Warsaw; Andrew and Olivia Istas of Buffalo; sister, Sibyl L. Smith of DeWitt, NY.
