Age 64, of Silver Springs, passed away on October 11, 2026.
Tom was born on November 6, 1961, in Warsaw, the son of the late Everett “Jim” and Doloris Mead Rutherford. Growing up in a large blended family, Tom learned early on the importance of family, a value that remained at the center of his life.
A graduate of Wyoming High School, Tom went on to work for the New York State Department of Corrections at the Livingston Correctional Facility. He was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix just about anything put in front of him, with a special talent for carpentry.
For his girls, Dad was always the first call whenever something needed fixing or a helping hand was needed. No matter what the problem was, they knew they could count on him to show up and make things right. He also made it a point to teach his sons-in-laws his ways, passing along the knowledge, skills, and tricks he had picked up over the years.
Above all, Tom loved his wife, Margo, deeply. She was his partner in life, and the love they shared was an important part of who he was. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and the moments that mattered most. The bond they shared was a special one, and he leaves behind a lifetime of memories that Margo will forever hold close to her heart.
Tom enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially cheering on the Buffalo Bills and making sure the NASCAR race was on. But above all else, Tom was a family man. His greatest happiness came from the time he spent with his girls and grandchildren.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and someone his family could always depend on. Though he may be gone, the things he built, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave will live on through his family for generations to come.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nicholas and Vivian Fili, and his brother-in-law, Mitchel Fili.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margo Rutherford; his daughters, Renae (Nick) Zakowicz, Lindsey (Paul) Rissinger, Ashli (Alex) Perrigo, and Tommi Kay (Ethan Grawe) Rutherford; his cherished grandchildren, Lily Zakowicz, Aurora Rissinger, and Axel Perrigo; and his many siblings.
