Shirley Jane Smith

(Shirley) Jane Smith, age 92, of Warsaw, NY, passed into the loving arms of her Lord on October 20, 2023, at Eastside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw, NY. Jane was the eldest of child of five born to the late Leon Mollison and Mabel Bartlett Shumway of Williamsburg, Massachusetts on November 5th 1930. In 1951, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. That same year she married Lynn A. Smith of Warsaw, NY, and later in 1953 moved to Warsaw, NY.

Jane worked as a registered nurse periodically at the Wyoming County Hospital, the former Manor Oak SNF, and the Eastside Nursing Facility while raising her four children. In 1974, she and her husband purchased and operated a business located on South Main Street in Warsaw known as the Oatka Deli, and later working at the 1 Hour Photo Lab, and Bud's Deli which became a family business.

Her greatest love was in raising her children. Jane was an avid reader, she enjoyed working and gardening in her back yard. In addition, she loved to sing and play the organ deriving the greatest joy entertaining at the various Nursing Homes often alone, with family, or fellow musicians. She had a strong relationship with her Lord Jesus, and for several years she played organ at the First Baptist Church in Warsaw.

Survivors include her children, Kent (Katharine) Smith of Brookfield, CT; Brenda (Kenneth) Smith of Gainesville, NY; Marsha Martin of Warsaw, NY; and Kevin Smith (Dr. Jie Wong) of Gainesville, FL. Eight grandchildren include Scott and Shawn Gardner, Cole Smith, Benjamin, Emily, Joseph and Cassie Martin, Janet Wong, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and her dear friend Dan Lacey of Warsaw, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Jane was predeceased by her second husband of 27 years, A. Rex Reinheimer in 2007, her brother, Peter Shumway, of Williamsburg MA 1990; and her sisters, Doris Sebastian, of Preston, CT 1997; Donna Bunyan, of West Lafayette, IN 2010; and Lee Tonet, Florence, MA 2022.
