Age 86, a resident of the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia, formerly of Castile, NY passed away peacefully on April 16, 2017 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.
He was born November 3, 1930 in Castile, son of the late Raymond B. and Esther Ranf Bowles. Bob was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean War. He received his bachelor?s degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1958. Bob owned and operated an accounting business in Castile for fifty-two years. He was a long time member of the Castile United Church of Christ and the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post in Castile.
Bob served as Mayor for the Village of Castile for eight years and then served for ten years as the Supervisor for the Town of Castile also serving on the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors. He served on the board of directors of the Arts Council for Wyoming County for twelve years holding the position of Treasurer. Bob was a former member of the Wyoming County Community Hospital Board of Managers and the Wyoming County Tourism Board of Directors. He also served as the financial manager for the Tri Town Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps.
Bob was a very giving person whose many acts of kindness and charity were always done quietly and without fanfare. When he had the opportunity, he enjoyed traveling and gardening and he was an accomplished painter.
Bob was predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth Bowles, Raymond Bowles, John Bowles, William Bowles and Thelma Freeman.
Surviving are his sister-in-law, Mary C. Bowles of Perry; eleven nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, April 21, 2017 from 3 ? 6 PM at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where an American Legion service and funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 6 PM. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Perry at a later date.
