Age 81, of Warsaw, passed away on August 9, 2025 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia after a short illness.
Richard was born July 4, 1944 in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Edward and Ruth Hitchew Williams of Wyoming, NY.
Dick worked at the LeRoy Steel Chest for several years before moving on to Eastman Kodak for a short time. He purchased the Gridley Restaurant in Warsaw in 1975, and together with his wife Shirley they operated that business until 1995. They also founded the Gridley Liquor Store in 1991 and owned that until 2005. In the late 70’s and early 80’s, Dick owned and briefly trained harness racehorses. He was an avid card player, but his passion was collecting fast cars starting from his teen years until his death. He owned many classic cars over the years as well. He will be missed.
Predeceased along with his parents are his wife, Shirley, who passed away in 2005, and a brother, Edwin F. Williams.
Dick is survived by his sons, Richard (Stephanie) Williams and Jeffrey Williams; his daughters, Kimberly (Jason) Vitez and Anngel (Lonnie) Bogardus; his step-daughters, Bridget Ryan and Michelle (Mike) Davis; his brothers, Donald (Sandy) Williams and Bruce (Mary) Williams; his sister, Dorothy (Don) Meeder; his sister-in-law, Arlette Williams; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Dick’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11 AM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw with burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HomeCare and Hospice at www.homecare-hospice.org.
