Ray W. Luce

Age 91, of Johnsonburg, NY passed away on February 7, 2024 at home.

He was born on December 17, 1932 in Warsaw, NY to the late Vern C. and Dorothy Gerhart Luce. Ray spent all 91 years of his life on Royce Rd. in Johnsonburg. In earlier years he worked as a dairy farmer on the family farm. Later on he went to work for Wyoming County as the Compensation Comptroller and spent some years as the Orangeville Town Supervisor. He was a member of the Beaver River Hunting Club, the Varysburg Lions Club, and the Varysburg Fire Department. In 1962 Ray built Luce Cabin, a place that many people throughout the county have enjoyed ever since. Ray enjoyed listening to music and loved animals.

He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine who passed away in 2012. He is also predeceased by his granddaughter, Joelle.

Ray is survived by his children, Tomas “Buck” Luce, Kathy Conway, Curtis Luce, and Howard Luce all of Varysburg; sister, Norma Luce of Oneida; his grandchildren, Tyler (Chantal) of Hailey, ID, Emme of Varysburg, Clayton (Beth) of South Park, CO, Samantha (Josh Cade) of Varysburg, Daniel “Boon” of Varyburg; great grandchildren, Bradley, Marley, Delaney, Levi, Kingston, Arya, Raven, Rowan; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm at the North Java Fire Hall, 4274 Route 98, North Java, NY where Ray’s memorial service will be held immediately following. There will be a dinner to follow. Burial will take place at a later date at the Johnsonburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Varysburg Lions Club or the Varysburg Fire Department, 2446 Route 20A, Varysburg, NY 14167.
