February 27, 1966 – September 12, 2026
Peter W. Herman, a lifelong son of Warsaw, New York, died Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 60, from complications of diabetes. He was born in Warsaw on February 27, 1966, and remained a small-town boy at heart for every year of his life.
After high school he went to work in the kitchen at Manor Oak Nursing Home, where he stayed for several years and served as a union steward. When Manor Oak closed, he continued caring for others at The Cloisters retirement facility. He later found a happy home at Silverlake Family Restaurant, where he enjoyed the people he worked with as much as the work itself.
Around that same time Peter joined the Warsaw Moose Lodge. He threw himself into the life of the lodge—running bingo nights, karaoke, raffles, and serving on the board. He was a member of Immanuel Methodist Church on the Hill, where he often shared his musical talent with special music. Music was his great passion. He brought karaoke to parties, weddings, graduations, nursing homes, and the Moose, singing and sharing songs until illness finally made it impossible. He also spent years helping his sister Patti with her 4-H horse drill team, running the music and getting the kids to competitions at the New York State Fair.
In later years he became his mother’s caretaker, a quiet devotion his family never forgot. Friends and family remember a man who was always willing to listen, always ready to help, and always present in his community.
Peter is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Herman, and his sister Patti Hume. He is survived by Jim Herman (Nancy), Betsy Adams (Craig), Myra Lutomski (Charlie), Cheryl Herman Merrill, Bill Herman (Carrie), and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility Activities Department.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 4-6pm at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Pete’s funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 6pm. His graveside service will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 10am in Warsaw Cemetery.
