Marian C. Seymour

CASTILE – Marian C. Seymour, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw, NY, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on November 3, 1930, in Warsaw, NY, Marian was the daughter of the late Robert Rae Cottrell and Cora Stevens Cottrell. A devoted lifelong resident of Castile and proud alumna of Alfred State College, she carried her love for learning into a career dedicated to community service. From working alongside Dr. G. Stanley Baker to serving as Clerk of the Works for the Town of Castile’s sewer project, and later in the Treasurer’s Office at Letchworth Central School, Marian’s work reflected her steadfast commitment to the place she called home.

On June 9, 1951, Marian married Harold “Hal” Seymour Jr., beginning a 63-year partnership founded on shared values, kindness, and endless laughter. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took the time to cheer on every family member, whether a graduation, a first job, or simply a day well spent.

Marian found joy in countless ways. A lifelong member of the Castile United Church of Christ since 1943, she also belonged to the Wednesday Club, Silver and Gold, and spent her children’s early years volunteering as a Den Mother. Her heart came alive in travel with Hal - having visited all 50 states, England, and several cruises - yet she often said the best trips were back home, dancing with Hal to Big Band music in the kitchen, or hosting an evening filled with music, clinking glasses, and warm laughter.

Marian is survived by her children: Charles (Shellee) Seymour of Manistee, MI; Richard (Deborah) Seymour of Batavia, NY; Anne (Marvin) Wilcox of Silver Springs, NY; Donald Seymour of Pike, NY; and Michael (Karen) Seymour of Colorado Springs, CO. Her legacy shines through her 14 grandchildren: Jacob Seymour, Lucas Seymour, Rachael (William) Allen, Lauren (Jeffrey) Smith, Nathan Seymour, Lindsay (Michael) McLaughlin, Andrew Seymour, Jessica (Sean) Janora, Rebecca (Peter) Marley, Erin (Brian) Velez, Kristen Seymour, Caitlin (Aaron) Ellison, Alexander Seymour, and Logan Seymour. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Delaney, Evelyn, Eleanor, Brooks, Brody, Brynn, Ulysses, Callan, Owen, Charlotte, and Riley.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Sally (late Robert) Tompkins of Rochester, NY, and Mary Jane (Peter) York of Castile, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Marian was predeceased by her husband, Harold Seymour Jr., her parents, her infant sister, Elizabeth Anne Cottrell, and sister-in-law Florence (Jose) Martinez.

Marian’s memory will forever be cherished not just for her unwavering faith and devotion to family, but for her boundless generosity, her creativity, and the quiet grace she brought into every moment. Her family dinners, thoughtful gifts, and heartfelt storytelling connected generations.

The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility for the tender care they provided during her final months. Your compassion and kindness meant the world to her and to us.
