Joseph A. Gillen

Age 70, of Warsaw, passed away on September 19, 2023 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born September 6, 1953 in Warsaw, son of James Gillen and the late Julia Bush Gillen. Joe was employed for over twenty years with Morton Buildings as a carpenter, a crew foreman and a sales representative. With the idea of spending more time with his family and attending his children’s school and athletic activities, Joe began working for the Village of Warsaw, he retired after eighteen years as the caretaker of the Warsaw Village Park.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed fishing for trout in the Oatka Creek and for walleye on Pigeon Lake in Canada.  Springtime was spent hunting wild turkeys on Carlton Hill, while autumn found him near his cabin chasing whitetails.   He was a wrestling fan, attending many high school and college matches over the years. Joe loved music, especially the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers, and attended many concerts. He enjoyed craft brewed beers and had a love for dogs, especially his springer spaniels, Patches and Sadie.  Joe loved joking and laughing with his children and grandchildren.

Joe was predeceased by his mother, Julia Bush Gillen, his sister, Christine Condidorio and infant brother, Michael Gillen.

Surviving along with his father, James Gillen of Warsaw are his wife of forty-five years, Brenda Bisson Gillen whom he married on October 8, 1977; his children, Stephanie (Charles) Voorhees of Cheektowaga, Jacob (Cassi) Gillen of McCloud, CA, Lindsay (Nathan) Redden of Arcade; grandchildren, Sydney Voorhees, Mackenzie Voorhees, Isabelle Voorhees, Porter Redden, Paxton Redden, Everett Redden, Joseph Gillen; his siblings, Kathy Carlson of Springville, John (Deborah) Gillen of Warsaw; several nieces and nephews.
