James A. Gehman

James A. “Jim” Gehman, of Wyoming, NY passed away on September 27, 2026 at the age of 66. He was born in Batavia, NY on January 11, 1960 to Ardell B. Gehman and the late Doris Rogers Gehman.

Jim was a natural storyteller with a lifelong passion for sports. He was fortunate enough to build a career doing what he loved—telling the stories of the athletes, teams, and unforgettable moments that shaped sports history.

His remarkable career began as an intern at WKBW-TV in Buffalo, where he ultimately became a sports producer. He later worked at WROC in Rochester as a sports anchor, WOR-TV in New York City as a sports producer, and CBS Sports. During his years with CBS, Jim traveled throughout the world covering the Olympics, NFL and MLB games, including multiple World Series and Super Bowls.

Jim contributed to numerous publications, including the Buffalo Bills, New York Sportscene Magazine, and Patriots Football Weekly. In recent years, he continued doing what he loved as a freelance writer for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Rams.

Despite Jim’s range of coverage, he was a loyal Buffalo Bills fan. He especially cherished his friendship with former Bills owner Ralph Wilson and the many former players he came to know throughout his career.

Jim was the author of two books, “Then Levy Said to Kelly…” and “Then Gibbs Said to Riggins”, preserving the stories and memories of two remarkable chapters in NFL history.

He is predeceased by his mother, whom he took care of in her later years. A quiet devotion his family never forgot and deeply appreciated.

Jim is survived by his father; his sisters, Debbie (Dennis) Parmerter, Cindy (Don) Seames; his brother, Kevin (Teresa) Gehman; his nieces, Christina Lewellen, Cat Landers, Michelle Laubacker, Karen Kovach, Nevada Gehman, Ellie Alban, Emily McIsaac, Natasha Cannon; his nephews, Matt Seames, Brandon Gehman; twenty-four great nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at the family’s convenience. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wyoming Hook and Ladder, PO Box 36, Wyoming NY 14591.
