Age 98, of Castile, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025 at her home in Castile.
She was born on May 23, 1927 in Perry, daughter of the late Benjamin and Frances Czaja Rynkowski. Irene attended Perry Central School, but due to World War II, she joined the work force and did not graduate. At the age of sixteen, Irene got a job at the Perry Knitting Mill. A year later she got a job at the Perry Caustine. Then at age nineteen, Irene worked at the cutlery in Perry. Irene wed her now late husband, Burnett “Speed” Thompson, on August 15, 1953 and they were married for sixty years until his passing in 2014. She enjoyed gardening and loved her poodles but Irene’s greatest joy came from raising her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Predeceased along with her parents and husband, are brothers, Fred (Barb) Rynkowski, and Danny Rynkowski.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Ray) Coveny of Castile, Terry (Alan) Guilford of LeRoy; her brother, Robert (Shirley Harris) Rynkowski of Batavia; her sister, Sylvia (Junior Baker) Post of Warsaw; her grandchildren, Shawn (Cortney) Coveny of Pike, Shannon (Ryan) James of Warsaw; her great grandchildren, Blakely Coveny, Bryce Coveny and Wyatt James; her sister-in-law, Eileen Rynkowski of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.
Irene’s memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 2 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Visitation with the family will take place following the memorial service until 4 PM. Burial to be made in Grace Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Irene’s name may be made to the Castile Fire Department, P.O. Box 98, Castile, NY 14427.
