Age 85, of Perry and formerly of Portageville, passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2026.

Born on April 14, 1940, in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, Gary was the son of the late Donald W.

Smith and Reva Rarrick Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, including service during the Vietnam War, before retiring in 1979. Following his military service, Gary worked for Morton Salt until his retirement in 1990.

Gary and his beloved wife, Shirley, who predeceased him, spent many enjoyable years flea marketing. Together they operated a Weekend Shop and participated in several co-ops, forming many lasting friendships along the way.

He is survived by his children: Don (Sondra) Smith of Roseville, CA; Sheryl Fast of Frederick, MD; Dan (Lisa Dulemba) Smith of Short Tract; Kevin (Molly) Smith of Portageville; and Beth (Tim) Mann of Warsaw. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane (Warren) VanDeWark of Jamestown, NY; his brother, Ron (Janet); and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Gary was predeceased by his son, Randy Smith, and his grandson, Matthew Fast.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 4-6 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Gary’s memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE First Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, or to Wyoming County Meals on Wheels, Office for the Aging, 8 Perry Avenue, Warsaw, NY 14569.
