Age 95, of Warsaw, passed away on January 28, 2026, at the Eastside Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Warsaw.
She was born October 3, 1930, in Alexander, NY, daughter of the late Harold and Elsie Hayner Spencer. Eleanor was one of seventeen children growing up so it’s no surprise that she worked in childcare, running a daycare service out of her home. She would go on to care for 1,008 children over the span of her thirty-eight-year career. Eleanor was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose lodge #560 and a founding member of the Warsaw Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, country music, and attending her son’s car racing events. Eleanor was also an avid bingo player, and nobody loved karaoke nights with her friends more than she did.
Eleanor is predeceased by her parents; her husband of sixty-six years, R. William “Hughie” Thomas; her stepmother, Estella Spencer; her daughter, Diana (Robert) Covert; her favorite nephew, Robert Slusser; her ten brothers; four sisters.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Sherri) Thomas of Macedon, NY; her sisters, Eloise Spencer of Florida, Inice (Richard) Testa of Groveland, NY; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends who were like family to her.
Friends may call on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 11AM – 1PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Eleanor’s funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 1PM. Burial will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warsaw Moose Lodge #560, 13 Frank St., Warsaw, NY 14569 or the Warsaw Fire Department, P.O. Box 229, Warsaw, NY 14569.
