Edward A. Hamilton

Age 74, of Portageville, passed away peacefully at his home on November 13, 2013 surrounded by family members.

He was born August 25, 1939 in Suffern, NY, son of the late James and Elizabeth Hannigan Hamilton. Ed was employed as General Park Manager for the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation based at Letchworth State Park prior to his retirement in 1991. He was a veteran of the US Army and was the former supervisor for the Town of Genesee Falls. Ed was a former police officer in Rockland County, NY and was a volunteer fireman in Stony Point. He also served as a New York State Park Commissioner, was a member of the Iroquois Trail Council Boy Scouts of America and the Friends of Letchworth.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman and a hunter safety instructor. He was also a lifetime member and past President of the New York State Trappers Association.

He was a member of St. Isidore?s Parish, St. Mary?s Church in Silver Springs where he served as a Eucharistic minister, a parish trustee and a member of the Community Life committee. Ed was also a longtime member of the former Church of the Assumption in Portageville where he served as Eucharistic minister and a member of the parish council. He was also a member of the board of the Assumption Cemetery in Portageville.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Judy Hamilton whom he married on June 3, 1961; his son, Edward (Anne) Hamilton of Kinderhook; his daughter, Colleen (James) Proctor of Mt. Morris; his brothers, Richard (Trudie) Hamilton of West Haverstraw, NY, Vincent (Chris) Hamilton of Woodbridge, VA and Gene (Margaret) Hamilton of Haverstraw, NY; his beloved grandchildren, Brandon Smith and Molly Hamilton; his beloved great grandchild, Peyton Smith. He was the brother of the late James F. Hamilton, Jr.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 16 at 11 AM at St. Isidore?s Parish, St. Mary?s Church in Silver Springs. Burial with military honors will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Portageville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Doughboy Restoration Fund, PO Box 394, Castile, NY 14427 or Friends of Letchworth, 1 Letchworth State Park, Castile, NY 14427. Arrangements are being completed by Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
