Dr. David Kent Bell, Md

Age 78, ophthalmologist, of Warsaw, went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2021 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home in Perry.

He was born August 13, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Benjamin Bell and Milda Gertz Bell of Warsaw. Dr. Bell grew up in West Seneca, NY and attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, University of Buffalo Medical School and Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo for his residency and specialization. He served in the US Army from 1972 to 1974. In 1974, Dr. Bell came to Warsaw to join the practice of Drs. Leachman and Fountain. He was a founder, along with his fellow doctors, of the Warsaw Medical Group at 408 North Main Street, which was later renamed University Eye Specialists.

Dr. Bell retired in 2000 and assisted part time as an ophthalmologist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, in the Strong Ophthalmology Department and in Hornell with University Eye Specialists.

He was a member of the West Middlebury Baptist Church. Dr. Bell taught Bible studies, Sunday school, home school science and was involved with the choir and sacred harp singing. He served on a medical mission trip to Haiti and a spiritual mission trip to a Ukranian orphanage witnessing for Jesus.

Dr. Bell was an avid gardener, loved classical music, particularly Bach and organ. He was a member of an astronomy club and the Amateur Radio Club where he taught new members Morse code and prepared them for examination to be licensed.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-three years, Phyllis Swift Bell, whom he married on July 1, 1967; his daughter, Lynda Bell of Perry; his sister, Anita Born of Clifton, Virginia; his brother, Charles (Susan) Bell of Warsaw; his grandchildren, Rachael, Natasha and Kathleen; several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Services will be held later for family only and a public celebration of life service will be held in the future when Covid precautions and weather permits. Information will be given at that time. Memorials may be made to Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home, 167 N.
