Douglas A. Merrell

Age 82, of Gainesville, passed away on August 25, 2023 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility.

He was born on January 30, 1941, in Nunda, NY, son of the late Wallace and Arlene Dumbleton Merrell. Doug was a welder and truck driver for Marquart Farms in Gainesville for many years and was a proud member of the Pike Volunteer Fire Co. In his free time, Doug enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. He also liked to do yard work, play with his dogs, and attend the tractor pulls at the Wyoming County Fair in Pike. Most importantly though, Doug enjoyed spending time with his family.

Along with his parents, Doug is predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann Merrell; his daughter, Angel O’Brien; his brother Cal Merrell; and a sister, Melody Ann “Dee” Martin.

Doug is survived by sons, Wayne (Cathie) Merrell of Gainesville, Douglas (Tiffany) Merrell of Arcade; his sister, Dawn (Terry) Kellogg of Oklahoma; his son-in-law, James O’Brien of Ohio; his sister-in-law, Donna Merrell of Brockport; numerous grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
