Age 81, of Pavilion, passed away on April 21, 2025 at Rochester General Hospital.
He was born on October 13, 1943 in Batavia, son of the late Hugh and Ruth MacIntyre McVean. Doug was a graduate of Pavilion Central School, class of 1962. Shortly after high school, Doug took a job with Noblehurst Farms in Pavilion, where he worked for sixty years, most recently as Head Herdsman. He was a member of the Covington United Presbyterian Church. Doug enjoyed snowmobiling in the Adirondak Mountains, was a Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan, and was an avid bowler. Doug also raised alpacas for many years with his wife Patricia.
Along with his parents, Doug is predeceased by his wife Patricia and a grandson, Jessie Moore.
Doug is survived by his children, Kim (Steve) Moore, Jenny Smith, Rodney (Julie) Smith; his brother, Robert (Deborah) McVean; his nieces, Carrie (Donald) Capuano, Tara (Mark) Pratt; his nephew, Scott (Kristen) McVean; his grandchildren, Nicole (Jamie) Dell, Steven Moore, Mitchell Swede, Ashley Swede, Jordan Smith; 7 great grandchildren; his devoted friend, Cheryl (Tim) Rutherford; numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins; many other devoted friends.
Friends may call on June 1, 2025 from 1-3 pm at the Covington United Presbyterian Church, 1701 Craig Rd Pavilion, NY. Doug’s Celebration of Life will be held immediately following visitation at 3 pm. Private burial will be made at Fairview Cemetery in Pavilion Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
