Donald Boies

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Donald "Don" Boies, who departed this world peacefully on July 28, 2026, in the comfort of his home, following a brief illness. Born on February 2, 1939, Don was a cherished son of Howard Dayton Boies and Helen Waters Boies.

Don's journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and a steadfast dedication to family and community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Gage Boies, and has now joined her in eternal rest, along with his brother, Robert Boies, sisters Marjorie Danielsen, Marion Ziecker, Eleanor Hawley, his daughters Joanne Hudson, Judy Hudson, and daughter-in-law Patricia Hudson.

Surviving him is his brother Leslie Boies and Sister Loretta Hawley. His loving children, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Erickson, David (Patricia) Hudson, and Danny Hudson, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and compassion. Don was a proud grandfather to Rachel (Bowen) Loomis/Hatfield, Ashley Hudson, Dylan (Tina) Hudson, Michael (Krystyna) Erickson, Jason (Tammy) Delavergne, and Jennifer (Mark) Jennings, and his many great-grandchildren.

A proud veteran, Don served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958. His sense of duty and service extended beyond his military career to his dedicated work with The Pike Highway Department, where he was employed for 37 years until his retirement.

Don was a man of varied interests and simple pleasures. He enjoyed a good game of Euchre and was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR and professional tennis. Don was a lover of nature, he found peace and purpose in caring for wildlife, feeding the birds, his old dog Scooter who rode in his Toyota with him hanging out the window wherever he went and most recently his beloved cat Sissy.

Known for his warmth and ability to bring smiles and laughter to those around him, Don had a gift for storytelling that captivated listeners, often weaving tales that led you down to the guy that lived on "whatchamacallit road" near the old red barn! His generosity and genuine love for his family and friends were the cornerstones of his character, and he found immense happiness in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored unconditionally. A special Thank you to his friends at the Parkside Diner in Castile who looked after him. He cared for all the staff immensely.

A celebration of Don's life will be held on August 8, 2026, at the Hunt-Stout American Legion, located at 6301 Lamont Road, Castile, NY 14427. A legion military service will commence at 12:30 PM followed by food beverages and storytelling!

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Don's memory to the Pike Rescue Squad, an organization close to his heart.

Don Boies leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
