Carlyle M. Johnson

Age 93, of Warsaw, passed away on July 25, 2020 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.

He was born December 3, 1926 in Batavia, NY son of the late Harold and Edith Webb Johnson. Lyle spent his career as a railroad engineer. In earlier years, he worked for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in Rochester and the New York Central Railroad in both Buffalo and Rochester. He retired as an engineer for Conrail.

Lyle was a proud veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II. He served in the Philippines and on the USS W.S. Simms AP 127. He was a longtime member of The Beachhead in Alexander.

Lyle was predeceased by his wife of sixty-five years, Rosemary C. Johnson who died on November 23, 2017. They were married on May 31, 1952. He was also predeceased by his great granddaughter, Alexandra M. Ferguson.

Surviving are his children, Gail (Ronald) Garvey of Lancaster, Kim (Robert) Smith of Warsaw, Lyle (Donna) Johnson of Florida; his grandchildren, Steven (Mary) Garvey, Scott (Mike) Garvey, Christopher (Brittany) Garvey, Jacob (Serife) Smith, Brigette Smith, Rebecca (Shane) Sundt; his nieces, Sarah (Jamie) Kline of Buffalo, Kristen Johnson of Buffalo; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

Friends may call Thursday, July 30 from 3 – 7 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where an American Legion service will be held immediately following visitation at 7 PM. (Attendance is limited to 33% capacity and masks are required) Lyle’s graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 4 at 1 PM at St. Michael’s Cemetery, S. Main St., Warsaw. All are welcome. Memorials may be made to the Wyoming County Nursing Facility Activities Fund, 400 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569.
