She was born on June 28, 1924, in Springville, NY, daughter of the late Truman and Alice Tefft Puff. Betty was a staple in Wyoming, whether it was working as a clerk at Wyoming Central School for twenty-seven years or babysitting the many neighborhood children throughout the years, you knew you could always count on Betty to share her warm and inviting personality. Betty was a woman of strong faith and was a devoted member of the Wyoming Methodist Church where she served on the Congregational Committee for many years. Betty was involved with the Middlebury Historical Society and was a member of the Wyoming Library Group and the Susan Look Avery Club. She also enjoyed quilting, was an avid reader, and was quite notorious for her many cooking recipes. Betty’s greatest joy though was her family and the time she got to spend with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Wallace Osterman; her daughter, Judy Strathearn; a son, James Osterman; a sister, Dorothy Milne; her brother, Bruce Puff; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Betsi” Osterman.
Betty is survived by her sons, Gary Osterman of Wyoming, Karl (Melody) Osterman of Wyoming; her sister, Carol Wohlheuter; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Osterman of Melbourne, FL; her son-in-law, Michael Strathearn of Wyoming; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 11am-1pm at the First Baptist Church of Wyoming, 28 Main St., Wyoming, NY.
