Berdena M. "Bernie" Merrill

Age 99, of Warsaw, formerly of Perry, transitioned into heaven on April 25, 2024 with her daughter by her side.

She was born August 26, 1924 in Hanover, NY, daughter of the late Albert and Mildred Stafford Matteson. Bernie was a graduate of Gowanda High School. She was employed at Bell Aircraft in Kenmore following graduation and she served as the Town Clerk for the Town of Villenova, NY for sixteen years. Bernie enjoyed gardening and her yard was always full of flowers. She also enjoyed spending her winters in Florida for many years.

Along with her parents, Bernie is preceded in death by her son, Gerald Ray; son-in-law, Jack Volk, three brothers, Lloyd, Gene and Wesley Matteson; grandson, Michael Ray; great granddaughter, Sienna Farr; stepdaughter, Janet Merrill; stepson, Raymond Kelly and father-in-law, Gerald Merrill.

Surviving are her daughter Cheryl Volk of Warsaw; daughter-in-law, Anne Ray of Florida; sister, Joyce Bryant of Connecticut; sister-in-law, Mary Matteson of Fredonia; grandson, Steven Ray of Dunkirk; three granddaughters, Tammy Ricotta of Buffalo, Melissa Johnson of Illinois and Laura Volk of Maryland; great granddaughter, Sadie; four great grandsons, Christopher, Josh, Ben and Jay; three great great grandsons, Carson, Kolton and Hunter; many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are her husband, Gerald Merrill of Florida, two stepdaughters, Valarie Merrill and Tina Loveland; step grandchildren, Jimmy, Jason, Ryan, Janelle, Alyssa and Johnny; mother-in-law, Eloise Merrill.

Friends may call Sunday, May 5 from 2 – 4 PM at the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church, 3415 Route 19 South, Warsaw where Bernie’s funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 4 PM. Rev. Randy LeBaron and Rev. Ryan Rovito will officiate. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church, 3415 Route 19 South, Warsaw, NY 14569.
