Age 83, died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025 at East Side Nursing and Rehab in Warsaw, NY after a lengthy journey with Alzheimer's Disease. Barbara was born in Luckey, Ohio on July 3, 1942 to Martin P. and Verna M. (Eilert) Geisbuhler. At the age of 11, Barbara lost her mother to tuberculosis and her father to liver disease just four years later. Throughout her childhood she lived with extended family and friends, landing in Clyde, OH where she graduated high school in 1960.
A talented student determined to make her own way and impact the world, Barbara put herself through college at Bowling Green State University where she studied English Education. She landed her first teaching job at Falconer High School in New York’s Southern Tier where she caught the eye of the tall and handsome shop teacher, Louis Boyer. Barb and Louis wed in 1965 and settled in Warsaw, NY where they raised their children, Joel and Amy (Mark) Dutton.
As a life-long educator, Mrs. Boyer influenced students at Falconer High School, Warsaw Central School, Wyoming Central School, and guided adults participating in Action for Personal Choice in Wyoming County. Barb’s style was to leave those she met smarter than she found them, studding her conversations with trivia, local and Ohio history, references to writers and books, suffragettes and change-makers.
In a rewarding second act, Barbara joined the staff of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County, retiring as director. She enjoyed the challenge and especially enjoyed the opportunity to write a column on family issues for the Batavia Daily. When she wasn’t working, she loved to read, was an avid collector of scotty dog memorabilia, and enjoyed traveling and hosting gatherings with family and friends. She maintained close friendships with her high school pals and never missed a reunion.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Louis T. Boyer, her sister Norma J. Hottinger, and many other dear ones. She is survived by her children, extended family, and many friends, students and acquaintances who will forever be changed by her presence in their lives.
Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Warsaw Public Library. A private celebration will be held in the summer of 2026. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.
