Stephen Edward Clark

On November 8, 2022, Stephen E. Clark of Leicester, NY peacefully stepped into his Savior’s presence while surrounded by his family in his home.

When diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020, Steve determined he was not going down without a fight. And fight he did, with quiet strength, grace, and dignity, until his last breath. When his pain and discomfort grew, Steve’s main thoughts were for his family instead of for himself.

Steve is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Marilyn (Brown) Clark. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Karen (Lumia) Clark, his children Benjamin and Sue Ellen (Coon) Clark, Melissa (Clark) Carswell (Charles Carswell), Laura Clark, Abigail Clark, and his grandchildren in whom he took great delight. Steve also leaves behind the children of his (predeceased) best friend Thurlow Cowles, and his wife Alice Cowles: Stacey, Steve, Jon, and Becky, who he considered both his dear friends and his extra “kids”.

In addition to his family, Steve is also mourned by the mother of his two oldest children, Rhonda (Canby) Clark, with whom he developed a beautiful friendship in his last years, as well as countless friends and former colleagues whom he impacted deeply with his work ethic, his humor (with his accompanying mischievous grin), and his care and concern for others.

In his years on this earth, Steve worked on several dairy farms, with farming always in his blood. He also served as Pastor to two churches before entering the medical profession as an Emergency Room Nurse. Steve was a deeply-respected ER nurse and took well-deserved pride in the fact he was excellent at his job. He also took great pride in being known as the best coffee maker the ER had, always making sure everyone had a fresh cup on hand.

After retiring from nursing in 2020, Steve drove a milk truck for Duncan Milk Hauling. While it was his job, it was also a hobby for him, returning him to his first love of dairy farming. This too, he took great delight and pride in, loving his miles on the road and seeing the beauty of “God’s dairy country”. Steve’s strength and his joy in this job had him driving just 12 days before his death, determined he wasn’t giving it up until he absolutely had to.

A memorial service for Steve will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 1 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. In memory of Steve and his courageous battle with cancer, it is his and his family’s wish that memorial contributions be made to Roswell Cancer Institute at https://www.roswellpark.org/.
