Rev. Charles W. Nonnenberg

Age 96, of Geneseo, formerly of Silver Lake, passed away at his home on November 27, 2020.

He was born July 11, 1924 in Pennsylvania, son of the late Henry Emil and June Uncapher Nonnenberg. Rev. Nonnenberg was employed by the United Methodist Church and served many congregations in Western New York during his career including in South Dayton and Hamlet, Silver Springs and Gainesville, Pavilion, Johnsonburg and West Barre. He also served as chaplain at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw for many years and served for eight years as Chairman of the Board for Camp Asbury at Silver Lake. Rev. Nonnenberg also participated in several short term mission trips to Uganda, Israel, Biloxi, Miss., New Orleans, Keyser, WV and Russia. He enjoyed performing his clown ministry; a unique and fun way to bring scripture and faith to as many people as possible.

Prior to his service in the ministry, Rev. Nonnenberg had many work experiences including working at a hardware store in Liberty, NY as well as student pastoring at several Liberty area churches. After he and his late wife, Kathryn moved to Buffalo, he worked for the Electrolux Company, the Chevrolet Stamping Plant and the National Aniline & Chemical Company as well as operating Nonnie’s Food Market.

Rev. Nonnenberg and Kathryn loved their extensive travels across the United States and they also enjoyed hosting many exchange students over the years.

Rev. Nonnenberg was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn and his daughter, Barbara Allegre as well as three infant children. He was the brother of the late Harl, Martin, Fred, James, Oliver, Henry, Donald and Lucille Nonnenberg.

Surviving are his daughter, June M. Nonnenberg of Glenville, WV and niece Trisha Fast of Farmington NY; grandchildren, Arthur (Donna) Seibert, Robert Seibert; great grandchildren, Hannah (Ben) Finley, Megan Seibert; great great grandchildren, Venita Jane Finley and Walter Charles Finley; his siblings, Paul Nonnenberg of Batavia and Carol Hollenbeck; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Jackie Tisdale, Sharon Kelly, and Al Boshart as well as Chambers Home Care and Livingston County Hospice, for being a part of his journey.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the Summer of 2021 at a date and place to be announced. Private burial will be in West Perry Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Burlington Family Services, 539 New Creek Rd., Keyser, WV 26726.
