Maynard R. Rogers

Age 97, beloved husband of Carolyn (nee Coats) Rogers, passed away at the Briody Health Care Facility in Lockport, NY on January 8, 2014.

Born August 27, 1916 in the township of Independence, NY, he was the eldest son of Ray and Leeta Rogers. After graduating from Elmira Business Institute, he managed his father?s farm and saw mill business. In 1945 he moved to Silver Springs where for seventeen years he owned and operated a hardware and building supply business. He also served on the Citizens Bank of Silver Springs board of directors, the Letchworth Central School Board of Education and was chairman of the Silver Springs United Methodist Church board of trustees. Maynard was also a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club.

Maynard enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading and fishing throughout his life. During his two years at the Briody facility, he became friends with employees and residents alike. He was described as a ?real gentleman?, always putting his wife first. He was quick to lend his expertise and a helping hand to anyone.

Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Carolyn; his children, Hal (Mary Sue) Rogers of Lockport, Darla (Bob) Egmond of Harrisonburg, VA, Terry (Mary) Rogers of Davidsonville, MD; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. His surviving siblings are June Stadelman and Helen Hall. Predeceased siblings are Raymond, Arlene and Doris.

A memorial service will be held at a future date to be announced by the family. Memorials may be made to the Silver Springs United Methodist Church, PO Box 308, Silver Springs, NY 14550, the Silver Springs Rescue Squad, PO Box 117, Silver Springs, NY 14550 or the Briody HCF Long Term Care Memorial Scholarship Fund, 909 Lincoln Ave., Lockport, NY 14094. Arrangements are being completed by Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
