Janis L. Chalmers, 81, of Warsaw, NY, passed away on Monday, October 19th, 2020, after a lengthy battle with cancer.


She was born June 1st, 1939, to Paul and Frances Laurence Chidester, in Clarksburg, WV. She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1970. She also attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Clarksburg, WV. She worked as a nurse in the newborn unit at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and then at Buckhorn Children’s Center in Buckhorn, KY.


She was married to Rev. Andrew C. Chalmers on December 2nd, 1979. The two moved to Wyoming, NY, in 1980, when Andrew was appointed pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Wyoming. Janis worked as a nurse for many years at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw, NY, until her retirement.


Janis served as a member of the Vestry and Warden of Trinity Episcopal Church in Warsaw, NY, where she raised funds for Trinity Church, including the SnackPaks for Kids and the Pet Food Pantry for the benefit of the Warsaw community. She also volunteered her time visiting residents at the Skilled Nursing Facility. Janis and Andrew were supporters of Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester and adopted four retired racing greyhounds over the years.


She is survived by her husband, Andrew; her son, Jonathan (Christine Nye) of Ewing, NJ. Janis was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sandra Moon.


Funeral arrangements will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Warsaw, on Monday, October 26th, at 1:00 PM. The service will be held outdoors behind the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.
