Harlan O. Allen

June 8, 1940 — March 10, 2023

Harlan O. Allen

Age 82, of Silver Springs, passed away peacefully at Eastside Nursing Home on Friday, March 10, 2023, where he had been a resident for a few months.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Kenneth Allen; his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Lynn Washburn; his brothers, Gordon and Keith Allen. Also, his brother-in-law, Dennis Slusser and father-in-law, Ray Wood.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Wood) Allen of 38 years; sisters, Rebecca Allen and Brenda Allen; brother, David Allen; sister-in-law, Bunny Allen; cousin, Gary Crawford; several nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Wood; sisters-in-law, Martha Slusser, Rachel (Stan) Standera, Nancy (Bob) Beyer and brother-in-law, Tom (Annie) Wood.

Harlan grew up in Castile, graduating from Letchworth Central School in 1959. He was employed at Champion Products for about 40 years, retiring in 1997. After which time he worked at the Silver Springs Liquor Store. Harlan was a kind-hearted, life of the party person for years. He loved taking his young nephew riding with him on Saturday afternoons and was always generous when needed. He was “Uncle Har” to many. He always gave his mom, who suffered from MS, a helping hand. Har did so much for his sister and friend at Gussy’s Place, to which he lived next-door.

Harlan enjoyed his family and many friends and will long be remembered for his unique ways. We shall all miss him much. He was loved by so many.

We would like to thank you all for your comforting words, cards, visits during this difficult time.

A celebration of Har’s life will be planned for early summer. Which is certainly what he would have wanted. (And maybe a refreshing Old Milwaukee or Schmidts!) He’s probably up there celebrating with Joycie and Lynn, Gordie and Keith right now.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Har’s memory may be made to Silver Springs Fire Department, PO Box 117, Silver Springs, NY 14550.

“Don’t cry because he’s gone, smile because he was here.”
