Robert J. Rutherford

June 11, 1934 - November 17, 2017

Age 83, of Castile, passed away on November 17, 2017 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

He was born June 11, 1934 in Warsaw, NY. Bob was a graduate of Letchworth Central School Class of 1952. He was an accomplished wrestler and athlete. He worked for nineteen years as a maintenance training supervisor at Attica Correctional Facility prior to his retirement in 1996. In earlier years, he owned and operated his own heating and plumbing business.                 

Bob enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed many fishing trips over the years. He was an accomplished painter specializing in water colors. Bob loved music and playing his guitar. He and Doris loved spending winters in Lady Lake, Florida.

Bob was a member of the Rock Glen Baptist Church, Rock Glen, NY and the Crossroads Community Church in Lady Lake, Florida. He was a former member of the Castile Fire Department and Rescue Squad and the Castile Community Club.

Bob was predeceased by his mother, Marian Rutherford.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Doris Swyers Rutherford whom he married on June 12, 1954; his children, Karen (the late Gary) Petitte of Pavilion, Steven (Melissa) Rutherford of Hamlin, Denise (Robert) Stowell of Perry; grandchildren, Jarrod (Angela) Fagan, Siobhan Fagan, Meghan (Chris) Main, Mark (Ashley) Stowell; great grandchildren, Ryleigh Fagan, Nelson Fagan, Aubrey Main, Brody Stowell; step grandchildren, Kevin Michael and Audrey; step great grandchildren, Raeha, Gabriel, Aspen and Jasmine; step siblings, David (Mary) Jones of Warsaw, Howard (Bonnie) Jones of Florida, Carl (Lucy) Jones of Michigan, Donald Jones of Perry, Jim (Pam) Brooks of Castile, Mary (Jim) Ingles of North Carolina; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Friday, November 24 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Bob’s memorial service will be held Saturday, November 25 at 2 PM at the Rock Glen Baptist Church, Route 19, Rock Glen. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Castile. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock Glen Baptist Church, Route 19, Silver Springs, NY 14550 or the Crossroads Community Church, 275 Griffin View Dr., Lady Lake, FL 32159.
