Ray C. Steele

January 2, 1947 - July 5, 2018

Age 71, of Warsaw, passed away on July 5, 2018 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

He was born January 2, 1947 in Warsaw, son of the late Lloyd and Edwina Terry Steele. Ray was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Ray spent twenty-seven years in corrections primarily at Groveland Correctional Facility. He also was the owner of Ray’s Beautiful People hairdressing shop first in Silver Springs and then at its’ present location in Warsaw. Ray also performed contracting work in the area for many years. In earlier years, he was employed with the New York State Highway Department.

Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved riding motorcycles. His greatest joy was supporting his children and grandchildren; attending all of their sporting events and dance recitals.

Surviving are his wife of thirty-eight years, Fay Surprenant Steele; his children, Robert (Debbie) Steele of Alexandria, Virginia, Nikki Steele of Warsaw, Dale (Dawn) Kilner of Varysburg, Todd (Lynne) Kilner of Warsaw, Richard Kilner of Warsaw; grandchildren, Dmitri Steele, Bella Parker Steele, Sammie Kilner, Danny Kilner, Alicia Cohen, Brittany Cohen, Sarah Cohen; great grandchild, Owen Kilner; sisters, Janice Wolfer of Ohio, Alfreda Hare of Castile; many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joan Hankins.

Friends may call Friday, July 13 from 4 – 7 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where Ray’s funeral service will be held Saturday, July 14 at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be in East Koy Cemetery, Pike. A veteran’s memorial service will be held Friday at 7 PM at the funeral home.
