James D. Belden

November 20, 1945 - October 29, 2018


Age 72, of Warsaw, passed away on October 29, 2018 at home under the care of his loving family and hospice.

He was born November 20, 1945 in Warsaw, NY son of the late Donald and Marguerite Carmody Belden. Jim owned and operated the Warsaw Super Duper grocery store in partnership with his brother, Ron for over twenty years; eventually adding stores in Mt. Morris and LeRoy.

He was passionate about his work and Jim’s life revolved around his family and sports. He coached youth softball for many years and always supported his kids in their athletic events. In earlier years, Jim played in various men’s softball leagues and played football and basketball at both Arcade High School and Letchworth Central School. He was a former member of the Warsaw Fire Department and the Warsaw Rescue Squad. Jim was a member of the Warsaw Sports Boosters and was the former President of the Super Duper Store Owners Association.

Jim was also a former member of the US Army Reserves.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-one years, Barbara Brown Belden; his children, Kimberly (Shawn) Monahan of Warsaw, Kari Grisewood of Warsaw, Amy (Michael) Grover of Warsaw, James Belden of Warsaw, Arin Belden of Rochester; grandchildren, Katy (Travis) White, Morgan (Joel) Monahan-Walsh, Abbey Monahan, Ryan Grisewood, Reese Grisewood, Noah Grover, Ethan Grover, Adam Grover, Jenna Belden, Kendra Belden; great grandchild, Parker Kathryn White; his brother, Ronald (Joanne) Belden of Leicester.

Friends may call Saturday, November 3 from 4 – 7 PM and Sunday, November 4 from 2 – 7 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Jim’s memorial service will be held Monday, November 5 at 1 PM at the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church, Route 19 South in Warsaw followed by a reception in the church ministry center. Private burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Warsaw Sports Boosters, 81 W.
