Helen E. Derrick

July 30, 1923 - December 21, 2017


Age 94, of Warsaw, passed away on December 21, 2017 under hospice care at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

She was born on July 30, 1923 in Rochester. Helen was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Warsaw where she was actively involved with the Mission Circle. She enjoyed quilting and traveling and she was a creative and artistic person.

In earlier years, Helen and her late husband, Bernard owned and operated motels in East Avon. They also enjoyed spending time at Silver Lake and Florida. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and had been involved as a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H instructor.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Derrick and her sister, Mary and brothers, Nick and Mike.

Surviving are her daughters, Alison Derrick of Burtonsville, MD and Lynne Crater of Warsaw; her granddaughter, Katherine Crater and her great grandson, Nathan MacIntyre.

There are no calling hours. Helen’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28 at 1 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials may be made to HomeCare & Hospice, 450 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.

I got to know Helen when she boarded her dog Boomer with me. She came in w/ a smile on her face, and we had many great conversations. I remember her talking about her quilting projects, and she even gave me a wall hanging which I still have. She was a special lady who left a lasting impression on me. My sympathies to her daughters on the loss of their Mom.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your mother.I still have alot of memories of being down at your place. Mom keeps asking me if she was still alive. Mom fell and broke her leg on Dec.16 and rushed to Strong. Leaving today for Murray Hill in Mt Morris. She will be 91 in April.
