Stella Wallenwein

June 3, 1911 - December 3, 2013

Age 102, a resident of the Wyoming County Nursing Facility, formerly of Castile, died December 3, 2013 at the nursing facility.

She was born June 3, 1911 in Connellsville, PA, daughter of the late Charles and Reba MacDaniels Kilbourne. Stella was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School Class of 1929. She also attended the New York Institute of Photography. From 1930 to 1940, she was the secretary of the Plattsburgh Board of Education. Stella then was employed as a photographer?s assistant with the Teele Studio in Ithaca from 1940 to 1950. In 1950, she began a six year tenure as secretary of the Ithaca Board of Education.

Stella was a member of the Castile United Church of Christ, the Castile Historical Society, the Arts Council for Wyoming County, the Canyon Camera Club, the Fiber Arts Guild and the Castile Silver & Gold Club.

Stella was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wallenwein who died in 1978.

Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Bruce Kilbourne of Denver, CO, Laurel Hart of Florida, Jeanne Kelly of Vermont, David Kelly of Vermont, Alfred Naish, Jr. of Williamsville, Margaret Brass of Iowa; several great nieces and great nephews. She was the aunt of the late Richard Burt and Jean Hoffman.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2 PM at Grace Cemetery in Castile. Arrangements are being completed by Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
