John A. Ames

February 6, 1928 - April 19, 2019

Age 91, of Warsaw, passed away on April 19, 2019 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.

He was born February 6, 1928 in Buffalo, NY son of the late Allen and Maude Kirkby Ames. John served in the US Army for thirty-five years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

John was a member of the Wyoming County Veterans Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Walter Klein American Legion Post in Warsaw. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Warsaw, Silver Lake Country Club, the Wyoming Club and the Warsaw Volunteer Exempt Firemen. He was a former member of the Warsaw Fire Department and the Warsaw Kiwanis Club.

John was a Buffalo Bills fan as well as an avid snowmobiler, golfer and bowler. He belonged to various bowling leagues over the years.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia Kline Ames who died in 2002.

Surviving are his children, Richard (Justine) Ames of Warsaw, Greg Ames of Warsaw, Laureen (Donde) Fabiilli of Grand Island, NY; grandchildren, Kassandra, Alexander and Talia; great grandson, Brayden Zufall; brother, Richard (the late Elizabeth) Ames of Syracuse; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Paul) Hourigan of North Carolina; nieces and a nephew.

Friends may call Saturday, April 27 from 2 ? 4 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where John?s memorial service and military honors will follow visitation at 4 PM. Private burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Wyoming County Animal Shelter, 4380 Route 19, Silver Springs, NY 14550 or Wyoming County Veterans Club, 245 W. Buffalo St., Warsaw, NY 14569.

We were both members of the 817th Evacuation Hospital from my joining in 1974 until John retired.  He was a great friend and fellow Veteran.  I last saw him at his wife’s funeral.  Many fond memories.
