Eugene H. Conklin

December 30, 1930 - January 27, 2018


Age 87, of Castile, NY passed away on January 27, 2018 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.

He was born December 30, 1930 in Castile, NY son of the late Howard and Avis Shumaker Conklin. He was a member of the first graduating class of Letchworth Central School in 1947. Gene owned and operated Conklin Crop Farms in Castile for many years. Following his career in farming, Gene and his wife Dawn owned and operated Hidden Acres Executive Golf Course in Perry. During that time, Gene designed and built the ?back 9?, expanding the course from nine to eighteen holes.

Gene was an avid and accomplished bowler. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking and working in his garden.

Gene was predeceased by his daughters, Victoria Ferrara and Dr. Deborah Coggiola.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Dawn Bliss Conklin; his children, Daniel (Lisa) Conklin of Castile, Lionel (Darshane) Conklin of Castile, Veronica (Jeffrey) Smith of Bliss; his son-in-law, Peter Coggiola of Silver Springs; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles Conklin, Eleanor Hoch and Janice Schroder.

Friends may call Tuesday, January 30 from 5 ? 7 PM and Wednesday, January 31 from 11 AM ? 1 PM at the Castile United Church of Christ, (cor. N. Main & Washington Sts.), Castile, NY where Gene?s funeral service will be held immediately following visitation on Wednesday at 1 PM. Private burial will be in Alger Cemetery, Hume. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Castile Rescue Squad, PO Box 338, Castile, NY 14427. Arrangements are being completed by Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
