William E. Jenkins

of Wyoming NY, passed away on July 13, 2017, at the age of 87. To the very end, Bill maintained a strong determination and the will to keep going.

Bill, the son of the late Wm. Kendall Jenkins and Doris (Case) Jenkins was born on April 7, 1930, in Warsaw, NY. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ramona Jenkins Rowe. Bill lived his entire life in Wyoming, NY, primarily on Jenkins Farms, and was married to Dorine (Klossner) Jenkins for 59 years.

After graduating from Wyoming Central School, Bill earned an Associate’s degree in Horticulture from the New York State Agricultural & Technical Institute at Morrisville. Over time, he assumed full responsibility of the farm that had been in the family since 1881.

Bill was always involved in many activities, in addition to farming. This included serving as a Town of Middlebury Councilman for over 20 years, as well as serving a term as the Town of Middlebury Supervisor. He was one of the founders and a Director of the New York State Corn and Soybean Growers Association. He was a member of the Warsaw Masonic Lodge for 65 years. Bill also served as Operations Manager at Swain Ski Area for many years in the 1970’s. In addition, he owned and managed Honey Hill Ski Area in Warsaw, NY from 1976 to 1985, providing the opportunity for many people to learn how to ski. Bill was an avid snow skier well into his 80’s, and also enjoyed boating and water skiing. Most importantly, Bill was known for his outgoing personality and endless curiosity about others and the world, with an ability to start and carry on a conversation with anyone. This especially served him well during his many travels throughout the US and Europe, including many ski trips, road trips across the US, and visits to relatives in Switzerland.

Bill is survived by his wife Dorine; his children, Jennifer (Paul Wicha) Jenkins of Brewster, NY, Heidi (Kim) Crist of Colorado Springs, CO, Jennilee (Nick) Stein of Windermere, FL, and Bill (Keith Williams) Jenkins of Dallas, TX; grandson Carson Crist; as well as several nieces and nephews.
