William E. Harding

March 1, 1923 - June 15, 2010

Age 87, a resident of the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia, formerly of Silver Lake, died June 15, 2010 at the New York State Veterans Home.

He was born March 1, 1923 in Dansville, son of the late William and Mabel Dumbleton Harding. Mr. Harding was employed for many years as a quality control inspector at Ritter-Sybron Co. in Rochester. He retired in 1981. He was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the US Army Air Force, 418th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group.

William was a member of the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post in Castile, the National Rifle Association and the Ritter Pistol Club in Rochester. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and riding his motorcycle.

He was predeceased by his wife, Delores who died in 1999.

Surviving are his children, Chris (Rocky) Mesiti of Caledonia, Edward (Karen) Harding of Castile, Betty Ikeler of Silver Lake; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and a good friend, Lucille Lavare of Rochester. He was the father of the late Barbara Gollel and brother of the late Dorothy Huck.

Friends may call Friday 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where a service will be held Saturday at 10 AM. Burial with military honors will be held at Grace Cemetery, Castile. An American Legion service will be held Friday at 6:45 PM at the funeral home. As a caregiver for Mr. Harding at the NYS Veterans Home, let me tell you what an amazing individual he was. I am sure you know this more than me. He could put a smile on your face and make you laugh anytime you needed it. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed and will be forever in our hearts. He was a wonderful man and I'm deeply sorry for your loss.
