Vera L. Eddy

September 20, 1921 - December 8, 2016

Age 95, of Gainesviile, NY passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw. She had resided at The Cloisters in Warsaw for the past three years.

Vera was born September 20, 1921 in Castile, a daughter of the late Harry and Ethel Clum Jenison. She graduated from Castile High School in 1939. She completed schooling at Rochester Business School and worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Rochester through 1947.

She married Hugh O. Eddy on January 31, 1948 and was co owner of Hugh O. Eddy Trucking until 1970. A second business venture began in 1963 when Woodstream Campground was established. She was an owner through to the present.

Vera was a stalwart in the American Legion Auxiliary in Castile, Wyoming County and the New York State District. She was a member of Silver Springs United Methodist Church for almost sixty-nine years. Vera volunteered at the Batavia VA Hospital for many years. In addition she was a Pioneer Girls leader along with being a mother, gramma, great gramma and cherished aunt and friend to many.

Vera was predeceased by her husband, Hugh O. Eddy, her daughter, Nancy E. Lowden and grandson, Todd Eddy.

Surviving are her sons, Owen (Judy) Eddy of Castile, Darryl (Kay) Eddy of Gainesville; grandchildren, Tara (Kevin) Spurlin of Galax, VA, Benjamin (Kari) Lowden of Sacramento, CA, Chad (Missy) Eddy of Raleigh, NC, Marc Hance of Gainesville, Eric Hance of Williamsville, Regina (Michael) Klump of Gainesville; great grandchildren, Renay, Holden, Dane, Will, Adlianne, Mikeanna and Dylan. She was the sister of the late Eva Humphrey, H. Clifford Jenison and Richard Jenison.

Friends may call Thursday, December 22, from 10 AM – 1 PM at the Silver Springs United Methodist Church, Church St., Silver Springs, NY where Vera’s service will be held immediately following visitation at 1 PM. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

I remember her from the Baptist church in Castile and the Pioneer Girls, especially staying at the house before it was a campground..
