Shirley M. Schmidt

October 17, 1927 - February 25, 2011

Age 83, of Route 98, Varysburg, died suddenly February 25, 2011 at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.

She was born October 17, 1927 in Buffalo, daughter of the late Wallace R. and Evelyn A. Jankowski Schmidt. Shirley was a graduate of Kensington High School in Buffalo and worked for many years as a sales clerk and buyer for various department stores in Western New York. She enjoyed her birds, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, John V. “Jack” Schmidt who died in 1985.

Surviving are her children, Catherine A. (Roger) Bartz of Varysburg, Thomas J. (Barbara) Schmidt of North Java, Donald J. (Colleen) Schmidt of Varysburg; her grandchildren, Eric J. (Dawn) Bartz, Kevin M. Bartz, Lisa A. (Jeremy) Barron, Jesse J. Schmidt, John V. Schmidt II; her great grandchildren, Amber, Michael and Tana Bartz, Riana and Tristan Barron, Natalie and Nathan Schmidt; her sister, Diane Popa of Canton, OH; her sister in law, Mary Lou Schmidt of Buffalo; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Wallace A. “Corky” Schmidt.

Friends may call Tuesday 3 – 8 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where a service will be held immediately following calling hours at 8 PM. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY. Memorials may be made to Wyoming Co. Meals on Wheels, 8 Perry Ave., Warsaw, NY 14569 or Varysburg Rescue Squad, 2446 Main St., Varysburg, NY 14167.
