Sandra B. Duckworth

February 3, 1948 - November 6, 2016

Mrs. Sandra B. Duckworth, age 68, resident of Wyoming passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6th, at the home she shared with her husband, Charles on Durfee Road, after a long journey battling cancer.

Sandi was born on February 3, 1948 in Rixford, Penn. of Marion and Kathryn Boser. With her parents, she moved to the traditional family farm owned by her grandparents, Charles and Bessie Boser where she spent her early childhood. Later, the family acquired and moved to their home in the Chipmonk Valley in Allegany, NY.

In 1965 she met Charles R. Duckworth, originally from Fayetteville, NC. They married a year later at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany. Sandi and Charlie lived in Greece, NY for their first eight years of marriage where both were employed at Eastman Kodak. They then bought land in Perry, NY and built their first home, had two children, Sarah Kathryn (August 13, 1975) and Charles Jason (February 1, 1977).

At age 42, she enrolled in the NY SUNY system with the goal of becoming a Special Education teacher. She graduated in 1993 and taught her first year at Perry Elementary School. She then moved to Wyoming Central School where she taught Special Education until 2004. She studied at SUNY Brockport to obtain her Master’s Degree in School administration. In 2004 she was appointed Superintendent/Principal of Wyoming Central School. At the end of the school year, June 20, 2014, she retired from the small school she loved so well. She often said that one of her greatest regrets after retirement was in not seeing the children each day. Her watchword was always “Everything that is best for my Students.”

Sandi is survived by her Husband, “Charlie,” Daughter, Sarah, Son-In-Law, Anthony Langello, Granddaughter, Catherine Rose, Grandson, Andrew Jacob, Son, Charles Jason, and Daughter-In-Law, Kelly Ann. Brothers, David, Robert and Sister, Lynda, and their families. She leaves behind the host of friends from our community and WCS that she came to love and cherish, including: Melina Hannon, Ursula Fuest, Chris Titus, Susie Gillette, Nancy Norton, Don Childs to name but a few.

Dear Family, There will be many tears shed because our hearts are broken because we truly lost a wonderful person. Sandi touched thousand of peoples lives and she will never be forgotten. She was one of many people that has kept Wyoming School on the map and for making sure our kids got the best education. Every child mattered to her. Everyone of us was blessed and honored to have known her and to have her as our friend. We will miss her tremendously but I know her legacy will continue through the Staff at Wyoming Central as well as the kids. She made difference in all our lives. RIP Sandi and know you were loved very much by many of us. When the star are out at night, I know one of the brightest will be you looking down on us smiling. Much love, Barry, Sharon, Tommy, Michael, Maria, Tony and little browned eyed Ali.

Mrs. Duckworth was one of the best teachers and administrators I have ever had the privilege to interact with. She was a mentor to me, and if I am half the educator she was my life will be full.

I'm so sorry for your loss, she is watching over you all now and I am sure she is smiling.

Thinking of you,
Jessica Hammond
