Roger Sage, age 74, of Sage Road, Warsaw died Saturday, September 24th 2011 at his own home. Roger was born in Warsaw, July 10th 1937, the son of the late Charles and Mabel Hamilton Sage. A lifetime Wyoming County resident and graduate of Wyoming Central School, Class of 1955, Roger attended the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University.
Roger’s working days revolved around selling equipment for Leader Evaporator, producing and marketing his maple syrup, and teaching others about the maple syrup industry. He was past president of the New York State and Western New York Maple Producers Associations, past president of the North American Maple Syrup Council, and past manager for the New York State Maple Fair Booth in Syracuse. Roger’s years of dedication and hard work paid off as he was inducted into the Maple Hall of Fame in 2006. Roger also served his local community in the past as Middlebury Town Justice and Town Supervisor. He worked as a rural route carrier for the USPS for over ten years.
Roger was a devoted family man and was very dedicated to his wife, children, and grandchildren. Surviving is his loving wife of 35 years, Cynthia; his children, Philip (Michelle Zack Clor) Sage of Batavia, Matthew and Hamilton Sage, both of Attica, Rebecca (Adam Comstock) Sage of Warsaw; his three granddaughters, Kaylea, Autumn, and Langdon; his sisters, Shirley (Robert) Jeffres of Wyoming and Eunice (Roger) Dills of Hilton; his brothers, Wayne (Joan) Sage of Perry, and Douglas Sage of Arizona; his sister-in-law, Mary Sage of Clarence ; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Sage of Wyoming and his sister-in-law Gale Sage of Arizona.
Friends of Roger C. Sage may call on Thursday, September 29th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home 246 North Main Street Warsaw. A service of remembrance will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 30th at 10am with Roger’s close friend, Eric Randall, as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the New York State Maple Producers Association to establish a scholarship in Roger’s name for students studying in the fields of agriculture/maple/forestry.
