Age 66, of Hermitage Rd., Warsaw, died unexpectedly on March 27, 2011 at the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA.
He was born December 13, 1944 in Warsaw, son of the late Eugene and Barbara Ann Roth Chandler. Bob was employed as a corrections officer for over 20 years at Attica Correctional Facility and then served for almost two years at Livingston Correctional Facility in Groveland prior to his retirement in 1992.
He was a long time member of the United Church of Warsaw where he was a past deacon and elder. He was a member of the Triluminar Lodge #543 Free & Accepted Masons in Pike and was a former member of the Attica Lodge #462 Free & Accepted Masons. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Coudersport Consistory. Bob had served as a 4-H leader in both the horse program and the rabbit program. He ran The Hitchin’ Post Deerskin shop with his wife for many years and was a bomb technician for the State of New York. While at Attica Correctional Facility, he was a member of the C.E.R.T. team and he was a past member of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Posse and a past member of the Attica Rodeo Association.
Bob, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, was an accomplished cook and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time at Hiram Lake and was a member of the Hiram Lake Association.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Ellen Lynne Stevenson Chandler, whom he married September 23, 1982; his sons, Robert (Yvonne) Chandler, Jr. of Vinton, VA, James (Jean) Chandler of Amherst, VA, Marc (Sarah) Chandler of Fincastle, VA, Christian (Sheila) Warne of Somerville, MA, Patrick Chandler of Warsaw; his brother, Roger E. (Dorothy) Chandler of Warsaw; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Ruth Stevenson of Albion; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lee (Jama) Stevenson of Burke, VA, William (Claire) Smith of Salem, SC, Don Stevenson of Medina; his aunts, Doris Allen of Texas and Gwen St. John of Gaines; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Friday 4 – 8 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Bob’s funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 PM at the United Church of Warsaw (cor. E. Buffalo & S. Main Sts.). Interment in the United Church of Warsaw Memorial Garden. A Masonic service will be held Friday at 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crossroads House, 11 Liberty St., Batavia, NY 14020 or the American Cancer Society, 101 John J. Audubon Pkwy., Amherst, NY 14228-1198 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
