Age 102, of Euclid Avenue, Silver Lake, died April 25, 2010 at her home under the loving care of her family.
Aunt Mary, as she was known to all, was born December 12, 1907 in Centerville, NY, daughter of the late Alois and Delia Kruppner. She was raised on a farm in Hume and attended a one room schoolhouse in her early years. Aunt Mary worked as a waitress after school and then moved to Cleveland where she lived with her brother and worked in a department store. She moved back to Perry and worked in a dress shop in Warsaw for several years.
In 1946, Mary married Oakley Elwell. Together, they purchased a cottage at Silver Lake and owned and operated a liquor store in Perry. Following their retirement, they moved first to Tavaris, Florida and then to Bonita Springs, Florida where they wintered for 42 years, always spending their summers at Silver Lake..
Aunt Mary loved collecting shells and making shellcraft. She owned and operated the Sea Serpent Shell Shop for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing. Oakley Elwell died in 1975. In 1981, Mary married Elwin Grinnell whom she had met in Florida. Mr. Grinnell died in 1990.
Aunt Mary was a resident of Silver Lake for over 70 years, was the last of the original Kruppner family who had settled in Centerville and was a long time member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Perry.
Aunt Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday 6 – 9 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where a service will be held Wednesday at 10 AM. Burial will be in Canaseraga Cemetery, Canaseraga.
