Age 80, of N. Main St., Gainesville, died July 12, 2012 at Buffalo General Hospital.
She was born August 12, 1931 in Arcadia, NY, daughter of the late Hayward and Florence Powers Matteson. In earlier years, she worked at the former W.T. Grant store in Warsaw, Wyoming County Community Hospital and East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Marlene was a graduate of Letchworth Central School Class of 1950 and she attended Rochester Business Institute in Batavia. She was a member of the Gainesville United Methodist Church for 67 years where she served as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer of the church for many years. She was a member of the Gladiolus Rebekah Lodge and the Friendly Rebekah Lodge. Marlene was a past noble grand and district deputy for Wyoming County. She was past president of the Genesee Valley Women’s Bowling Association and was a past member of the Town of Gainesville Planning Board and the Gainesville Library Board.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Woodhouse whom she married June 29, 1968; her daughter, Sherri Errington of Gainesville; her grandchildren, Nathan and Melissa Errington; her sisters, Gloria (the late Charles) Bauer of Basom, Ardys (the late Millard) Chapman of Chester, MD; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Marleene’s funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM at the Gainesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville.
