Age 74, of N. Main St., Castile, died October 10, 2010 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born May 10, 1936 at the home of Dr. Hazen in Lebanon, NH, son of the late Lester and Evelyn Higgins Palmer.
Leonard graduated from Lebanon High School in 1954 and he married Frances Carpenter on June 11, 1960. He operated an Ayrshire dairy farm on Hardy Hill in Lebanon and was a DHIA milk tester and substitute mail carrier for 7 years and worked for Splitball bearing Company of Lebanon for 5 years.
He moved to Rushford, NY from New Hampshire in 1969 and then to Route 39 in Castile where he worked as a dairy farmer. Mr. Palmer worked at Doehler-Jarvis Co. in Batavia and after moving to Oramel, NY he worked as a maintenance man at a wildlife sanctuary. Leonard worked at Southview Farms in Castile for several years and then was employed at the former Kittinger Furniture Company in Castile for 17 years until the plant closed. He also worked for Polymil & Orcon in LeRoy as well as Fondrick Doors in Batavia until his retirement in 2003. Leonard attended Genesee Community College in Batavia for accounting and tax preparation and was a self employed tax preparer until 2008.
Surviving are his wife, Frances “Fran” Carpenter Palmer; his daughter, Larie (Robert) Clark of Perry; his grandchildren, Eric Robert and Amie Elizabeth Clark of Perry; his sister, Lora Stone of Lebanon, NH; his brother, Nelson (Rose) Palmer of Croydon, NH; his sisters in law, Lynn Dodge Palmer of Enfield, NH, Eleanor (Ronald) Carpenter Farr of Etna, NH, Ella Carpenter Pickering of Blackstone, MA.
Friends may call Wednesday 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where a service will be held Thursday at 10 AM. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville.
