Age 90, of Cummings Ave., Silver Springs, died March 30, 2010 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.
He was born December 1, 1919 in Ithaca, NY, son of the late Paul and Alice Manney Kruse. He was a graduate of the former New York State Rangers School and received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1948. Mr. Kruse was a veteran of the US Army serving during both World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant with the Ledo Area Command in the India Burma Theater.
Mr. Kruse served for many years as district conservationist with the US Department of Agriculture prior to his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Silver Springs Fire Department and Rescue Squad for over 50 years and was a past captain of the Silver Springs Fire Police. He was a member of the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Wyoming County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, FASNY and was very active with Wyoming County Civil Defense for many years. He was a former member of the Cowen, WV Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Kruse was a true environmentalist and enjoyed spending time camping, fishing and hiking. He and his late wife, Shirley, who died in 2007, enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Arizona, Texas and Florida.
Surviving are his daughter, Nancy (James) Marley of Gainesville; his grandchildren, Kristina (Tim) Clarke, Lisa (Sean) McPhee, Shawna Marley and Tim Marley; his great grandchildren, Matthew Clarke, Owen Clarke, Seamus McPhee and one great granddaughter on the way. He was the brother of the late Gere Kruse.
Friends may call Friday 4 – 8 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where a service will be held Saturday at 2 PM. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Silver Springs. A firemen’s memorial service will be held Friday at 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Silver Springs Fire Department or Rescue Squad. Seeing your Mom and Dad pulling out of the garage and driving down the lane was a most familiar sight. It is nice to think of them as together again, probably in a truck but maybe in the garden.
