John F. Volk

August 20, 1945 - September 29, 2016


Age 71, of Warsaw, died on September 29, 2016 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.

He was born August 20, 1945 in Fillmore, NY son of the late Nathan and Jean Beardslee Volk. Jack was a graduate of Fillmore High School Class of 1965. He was the owner and operator of Volk Excavating, the company he began in 1979.

Jack was the Vice President of the New York State Chapter of Land Improvement Contractors of America and he served on the board of directors for Covenant Acres Christian Camp in Pike for many years. Jack was a member of the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Ray Volk; his daughters, Laura Farr of Silver Spring, MD, Tammy (Doug) Ricotta of Warsaw; grandchildren, Christopher Volk of Warsaw, Joshua Volk of Niagara Falls, Sadie Farr and Sienna Farr both of Silver Spring, MD; great grandchild, Carson Volk of Warsaw; sisters, Judy (Rick) Heers of Immoklee, FL, Phyllis (Gary) Swackhamer of Hornell; brothers, Gerald (Shirley) Volk of Chittenango, Phillip Volk of Hume; his mother in law and father in law, Berdena and Gerald Merrill of Arcadia, FL; brother in law and sister in law, Jerry and Anne Ray of Celeron. Jack was brother in law of the late Lucile Volk and Raymond Kelly and uncle of the late Karen Volk and Michael Ray.

Friends may call Sunday, October 2 from 12 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw and Monday, October 3 from 12 – 1 PM at the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church, S. Warsaw Rd. (Rt. 19), Warsaw where Jack’s service will be held Monday at 1 PM. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to be used for a healing memory garden at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility or a picnic pavilion at the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church.
