John E. Gates

June 27, 1924 - November 18, 2012

Age 88, of Patrick Place, Warsaw, formerly of Castile, died November 18, 2012 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

He was born June 27, 1924 in Sterlingville, NY, son of the late Raymond and Lucy Market Gates. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force having served during World War II. John owned and operated Gates Transport in Perry, NY for many years. He also worked in maintenance at Attica Correctional Facility and Letchworth State Park. He was a former member of the Perry Chamber of Commerce and served on the Castile Town Board.

Surviving are his wife, Georgette Cousineau Gates; his children, Sharon (Dan) Crawford of Chili, Linda Vallance of Batavia, Christopher (Judy) Gates of Jacksonville, FL, Scott Gates of Batavia, Patrick (Susan) Gates of Silver Lake; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; his sister, Veronica (Thomas) Bogenshutz of Clayton. He was the father of the late Peggy Sullivan and Deborah McGinnis.
