Age 87, of Park Road West, Castile, died April 10, 2009 at the Wyoming Co. Comm. Hospital in Warsaw.
She was born February 27, 1922 in Rawson, NY, daughter of the late Carl and Mildred Morse Norris. She was a graduate of Nunda High School Class of 1939 and attended Geneseo State Teachers College. Mrs. Smith was employed for 20 years at the former Kittinger Furniture Co. in Castile. She then worked for 12 years as a clerk at the Shur Save market in Castile until her retirement in 2000. She was a member of the Castile United Church of Christ, the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Auxiliary in Castile and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Jean enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Edward N. Smith who died in 1989.
Surviving are her son, Richard (Kay) Smith of Castile; her daughters, Marjorie (William) O’Grady of Maryville, TN, Judith Armstrong of Huntsville, AL; her brothers, William (Harriett) Norris of Brocton, NY, John (Lucille) Norris of Bartlett, Neb., Ronald Norris of Tulsa, Okla.; her sister, Laura Hoover of North Tonawanda; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Kenneth Smith.
Friends may call Sunday 6 – 9 PM at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where a service will be held Monday at 1 PM. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Castile. Memorials may be made to the Castile Rescue Squad. Online condolences at http://www.harmon-watson.com
