Age 86, of Route 19A, Portageville, died July 3, 2011 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 7, 1924 in Perry, son of the late Glenn and Venia Shurtleff Lapham. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force having served during World War II. Jack was employed for over 28 years as a telephone installer and repair technician for Rochester Telephone Company. He operated the former Honey Hill Ski Area for several years. Jack also had the Charles Chips franchise for 10 years and ran the pro shop at Barberlea Golf Club in Nunda. He was an avid skier and golfer and was an accomplished woodworker. Jack enjoyed being outdoors and his trips to the Adirondack Mountains.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Barbara Eustace Lapham whom he married on November 8, 1952; his daughter, Kathy Lapham of Independence, WI; his son in law, Joe Skill of Rock Glen; his grandchildren, Gina (Jack) Skidmore, Michael Chappel, MacKenzie Chappel; his great grandchildren, Anthony and Anderson Skidmore. He was the father of the late Glenn Lapham who died in 1974 and Peggy Skill who died in 2007 and brother of the late Robert Lapham.
Friends may call Friday 1 – 3 PM at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where a service will be held immediately following calling hours at 3 PM. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Castile. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Dr., Amherst, NY 14226.
