Age 88, a resident of the Wyoming County Nursing Facility and a long time resident of Wyoming, NY, died January 18, 2011 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.
He was born January 15, 1923 in Dale, NY, son of the late Richard and Mabel Kelly Heron. Gordon was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving during World War II. He was employed for many years as a bus driver and mechanic for Wyoming Central School and he retired in 2001. Mr. Heron was the former Supervisor for the Town of Middlebury and was a long time member and past chief of the Wyoming Hook & Ladder Company. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Verna Heron who died in 1983.
Surviving are his daughters, Phyllis Hopkins of Rochester, Judith (Paul) Brown of Wyoming; his grandchildren, Amy Hoover, Brian (Jackie) Brown, Larry (Nicki) Brown, Brett (Cortney) Brown; his great grandchildren, Elizabeth Hoover, Heather Hoover, Billy Hoover, Josh Brown, Zack Brown, Blake Brown, Morgan Ferrara; his sister, Betty Douglas of Clearwater, FL. He was the brother of the late Ed Heron, Claude Heron, Don Heron, Richard Heron, Mabel Smith and Clara Allard.
There are no calling hours. Services will be private. Burial will be at a later date in Wyoming Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wyoming Hook & Ladder Co., 26 Maple St., Wyoming, NY 14591. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.
